Production powerhouse

For more than three decades, Godin Productions had secured its reputation as a “production powerhouse” through brokering jobs for its customers, securing and delivering the design, printing or logistics elements as required. Faced with the restrictions brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses around the world looked to pivot - and Godin was one. As CEO Todd Godin explains: “Through COVID we made a very deliberate decision to get into manufacturing to enhance our abilities, bring more to our clients, and to have more control over the process.

“We in-housed our structural design department and we needed to support that with a cutting table, so we actually bought a full Kongsberg C64 unit with automation,” he said. “That led us then into a new printing device, a second Kongsberg table, and a third table specifically for a structural design department. We now run two C64s with full automation and we have a smaller X unit for our structural design department.”

Once we had our first Kongsberg in, we started to understand how it was helping us – how it was helping our profitability, and helping us offer something new that we could show our clients.

Meeting increasing demand

Todd explained how after acquiring a new high speed printer at the facility, Godin added the second Kongsberg C64 with automated Feeder & Stacker to boost efficiency and productivity in the face of growing customer demand. “For us it really allows us to have one operator running two machines.,” he said. “You know, that is the other big expense around our cutting tables is labor and it's just naturally more efficient.”

Todd said that the investment in Kongsberg technology was already delivering a significant return. “Manufacturing is affording us a much higher profitability on our jobs, which allows us to reinvest,” he said. “The ROI is paying off already on the machines we have.”

We wanted to have the best machines, we wanted to have full automation so we were as competitive as we could be, we hired the best operators and we really want the best of the best - and Kongsberg has such a wonderful reputation.

“We will continue to expand our abilities with different substrates but the Kongsberg cutting table really is the secret sauce for us in terms of our ability to push a lot of work through,” added Todd.
